AJ | Saturated dense black-red. Very fine aromas here: pure, lifted, engaging, with blackcurrant classicism just pastel-shaded into something a little sweeter and more floral; a sweet dusting over the electric 2019 fruit core, in sum. Very fine for this level. Vivid, deep, searching, deep and action-packed on the palate; a super-exciting, turbo-charged Tronquoy which is going to endure and challenge and reward for many years yet. In the end it doesn't quite have the textural breadth and fruit orchestral quality of the finest sites, but it's hard to imagine how this property could have done better in this vintage. It also reflects the extreme drama of this vintage in St Estephe; there isn't the natural 'rightness' of balance in this vintage in St Estephe that you find in Pessac-Leognan, for example. A touch dry on the finish. But ... an exciting wine.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2036. 92
MS | Noticeably black-fruit ripe to smell, but also gravel ‘restrained’; fairly full, supple yet fresh enough, finely but firmly tannic; round, ample, plump, fleshy cored, black fruit ripe in flavour, the merest hint of alcohol warmth, moderate complexity and good length. Showy Tronquoy, which could do with a year or two more in bottle. Drink Dates: 2026 - 2034+. 90
