SF | Deeper in color than the other 1974s: mahogany, with the faintest hint of green at the rim. A powerful, smoky nose; savory, intense, herbs, incense, seaweed, and a hint of firework. Cinders, embers, and a hint of gingerbread; burned orange, herbs, and a detailed nutty exposition; a really intense, impressive wine from such a long time ago; an honest and compelling example. The way we lived… then! 92
AJ | Relatively pale now: a dilute walnut, with some lingering russet glints. Just a little bit tenuous and reedy, aromatically, compared to its two vintage peers, though as clean and refined as you'd like. Slender and svelte on the palate, and compelling as such; there is ample fruit packed in here, though it has all been through the winnowing refinement of time, so you taste it in full metamorphosis. Pure and enchanting, though without quite the impact and insistence of the very best, which have come through time with their arms a little more full. 2024–26. 91
RM | More mahogany in tone than the other 1974s in the line-up, with overtly rich, slightly smoky-savory, autumn-bonfire aromas, almost maderized in style; rich and verging on unctuous in its intensity, with a profound, bitter-sweet, dark-chocolate character mid-palate, which persists on the finish. Rather wonderful 94
