AJ | Dark black-red, opaque at the core. Warm, comfortable, ample, with fine aromatic ripeness: soft black fruits, incense-infused; exotic and attractive. A super effort here, and some attractive evolution in the glass, too. On the palate, the wine is brisk but with some green tones that weren't apparent on the aromas; bright, high-toned fruit. Clearly a difficult vintage here and that shows on the fruit. There are plenty of firm tannins, too -- a little firmer than they would have been with a gentler, warmer summer. It's Pomerol, for all that, and very impressively concentrated, with real lunge and tenacity. You have to be careful about concentrating the right things, though. This concentration with less green tones in the fruit would have been very impressive. Perhaps this was just not possible in 2021. Impressive fresh Pomerol, though, and well worth a look. Drink Dates: 2027 - 2037. 89
SF | Bright ruby, welcoming. Typical Gazin generosity of spirit, with lively lifted red fruit and dextrous chalky tannins Made to measure with in a vintage context; made to last for as long as one may wish, such is the interplay of tannin, acidity and alcohol, all rehearsed with effortless guile. A calm reassuring finish. Drink Dates: 2026 - 2036. 89
