Stephen Brook: Very pretty nose: floral, ripe citrus, apricot. Has the kind of brisk charm you want from a young Auslese. Medium-bodied, with an appealing sweet-and-sour tone—indeed, a slight tartness that is refreshing but doesn’t suggest the fruit is fully ripe nor particularly concentrated. But this brisk character is acceptable in an Auslese, and there’s no reason why this should not evolve well. Quite good length. 15
Margaret Rand: Ripe, earthy nose with a touch of sulfur. Palate both edgy and sparky, and earthy. High acidity, penetrating and refreshing. Barely sweet. A long, elegant finish. 16
Jancis Robinson: Very pale. Still lots of sulfur on the nose. Embryonic. The acidity dominates the sweetness for the moment—it’s even a little skinny. Lemon sherbet is the overpowering impression. Pretty astringent finish. This is a rather scratchy texture and, although it is quite persistent, does seem to be drier than many other Nahe Auslesen. 16.5
