Tim Atkin: Massive color. Strong volatile acidity on the nose. Pruney palate, baked, dry, tannic, and clumsy, but it’s the VA that really dominates. 5
Gerard Basset: Deep red ruby. Very pronounced nose. Ethereal with almost burned fruit. Lean with ripe tannin, stewed fruit; medium-long finish. 15
Anthony Rose: Deep youthful ruby; very sweet and spicy, almost Porty aromas emanating from the glass here; on the palate, lots of sweet cassis and sweet spicy vanillin oak characters, quite juicy supple tannins and despite the obvious ripeness on the nose and palate, there’s a degree of freshness, grip and succulence that makes this wine attractive, at least in the short term. Not a banker for longer-term aging, however. 15.5
