Andrew Jefford | Dark red-black, just off opaque at the core. Dense, full, meaty, of serious intent, packed with classic plum fruit: a cleaner, purer nose than among some of its Pomerol price peers. A little evident oak, but nothing that good Pomerol fruit can’t absorb. An excellent aromatic profile here. Clean, fresh, pure, and frank, with relatively prominent, athletic acidity: the vintage’s profile is respected. But there’s a lot more than that, too, in this concentrated, bustling, busy-flavored wine: a fine drench of plum and ample meaty depths, with sound, fruit-bonded tannins. An outstanding effort from Bourgneuf, and with a little more finesse and refinement it would have unhooked a mid-90s score. | 91
Michael Schuster | Dense, minerally, quite Merlot plummy to smell; full-bodied, fresh to lively in acidity, firmly tannic; a characteristically firm, chewy expression of the commune, freshly ripe in fruit, muscular in texture, moderate in complexity, and with good length. A satisfyingly chewy mid-rank Pomerol. Don’t expect any great finesse or subtlety, but this will be very attractive as an accompaniment to food with plenty of substance. Now to 2037+. | 89
