Simon Field | Elegant Welsh gold; an attractive nose of quince, lanolin, citric fruit, and cantaloupe melon. Generosity of Semillon fruit; melon, honeysuckle, and a hint of poached pear. All is harmonious; the Welsh golden mean maybe. An impressive effort. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Very deeply colored: alluring, winking gold. Not hugely forthcoming on the nose as yet, but great allure and charm: sweet, brooding, leafy, floral. Quiet but lovely, and you sense that this has much more to give. The oak shows a little at this stage, which it won’t later. Lots of weight and purity; ample sweetness. Little acidity—but not unbalanced: Look for the violet, rose, and ginger-spice perfumes, and you’ll see just how the wine dances. Lovely quality here and yet another Sauternes second wine in 2017, which surely can’t be far adrift of the first. The sweetness itself is splendid: totally unplain, totally unvulgar, an exuberant expression of spicy, gingery fruits. A great wine for pennies, relatively speaking. | 93
