BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin | Dense, concentrated. Rich, peppery, and concentrated nose. Almost Italianate. Herbal, spicy notes, very fresh, focused, and serious. Bitters, clove spice. Rich wine with very focused acidity and length. Complex, stylish, and savory. Alcohol a little too marked? | 16

Alex Hunt | Rich, ripe nose of apple and blackberry; a little bit of spice, even juniper. Poised and focused in the mouth, with no undue alcohol, and a completely appropriate piquancy. One of the most coherent wines here, as well as one of the most elegant. | 17

Stephan Reinhardt | Dark and deep ruby. Very ripe, rich, and intense on the nose (quite cooked if not burned flavors), a powerful wine with aromas of shoe polish. Rich and long on the palate, not big but impressive; there is finesse and a silky elegance due to a slaty soil, I suspect, but also power. The question is whether the acidity and the power are well balanced. I would say both are prominent here, as in Barolo or Bairrada, and I like the pure soul of this wine, which has tremendous length. Very powerful indeed. | 17.5
