Stephen Brook | Subdued nose: banana and tropical fruit. Broad, quite rich, and a little C02 supports the acidity, which, while not that high, seems somewhat raw. Overall, a bit dull and lacking in presence and flair. Blunt finish. | 14
Andrew Jefford | Mid- to full-gold. Plenty of Riesling classicism here: orchard fruits in mid-season, with lots of cardamom and nutmeg. A lovely nose; delicate but well drawn. On the palate, this is a much richer and fuller wine than most of those we have been tasting, but I take that to be a true representation of its place. It has plenty of crushed-stone notes to give it finesse and dignity; we’re tasting autumn apple and white grape and yellow peach and cardamom, too, and it’s all very good. Who can say Riesling doesn’t belong in Heathcote? On the basis of this wine, it does. Limpid, poised, and pure—still very much in the Australian idiom. If you want a complete collection, don’t leave this out. And if you find many Australian Rieslings just too austere and stripped back, I suspect you’ll love this fuller and more developed style. Nothing whatsoever bitter in the finish. | 17.5
Stephan Reinhardt | Straw yellow. Rich bouquet, ripe aromas. Pure and elegant on the palate, firm, concentrated, powerful, also due to alcohol. | 15
