Stephen Brook | Delicate green apple, spry and charming. Quite rich, suave, and juicy, with a fine texture but a slight lack of acidity and flair. There’s an appealing tanginess but not much depth or complexity. Balanced and correct, but it lacks drive and persistence. | 15
Andrew Jefford | Mid-gold in color. This has the daffodil or jonquil aromas that are so common on Australian Chardonnay; perhaps you could call them jasmine here. Fresh appley fruit beneath, but other slightly homogenous floral note takes the lead. A little tight, a little drily lean on the palate, without a lot of fruit wealth. Perhaps we’ve caught it at a bad moment; there is plenty of crushed stone, too. Will the fruit come back in modulated form? Not sure right now. It has innate Clare complexity and “Riesling rightness” but it is not the most beguiling wine on the bench. | 14.5
Stephan Reinhardt | Pale gold. Cooked apples, lime aromas, good density. Rich and powerful on the palate, slightly bitter in the end and starting to dry out. | 12.5
