Nicolas Belfrage: Unusually advanced color. Good acidity and ripe tannins; has typicity and fruit but fails to shine through. Perhaps it’s a little tired; try another bottle? Later. 14
Andrew Jefford: Deep red, shading to garnet at the ridge. Sweet, warm and stewy in style, the scents in this wine evoke red summer fruits bubbling in a copper pot, as well as some tree bark and glowing ember, and a little sweet pipe-tobacco as well. On the palate, it is quite deep and thrusting, with plenty of vigorous tannin. The acidity, by contrast, is relatively slender, and not enveloped by fruit warmth as it is in the best. As so often, there is a slight flavor pause in the central palate once the fruit has slipped away and before the tannins kick in. Nonetheless, this generous, foursquare wine deserves commendation 14.5
Franco Ziliani: Deep ruby color, intense with some signs of evolution. Very strange for the young age of the wine. Intense ripe fruity notes, almost overripe, just like a marmalade or jam. Doesn’t show great freshness of ripe fruit. Slightly disappointing on the palate, with no great structure and body and some bitter astringent tannins on the finish. 14.5
