Simon Field | A golden band of gold; then a seductive nose of honeydew melon, preserved lemon, and mandarin, behind that guava and quince, hints of woodsmoke and summer flowers. Beeswax and candy, a pithy presentiment to voluminous development. Harmony is present, the wine is composed and complete. Quite dense and powerful, but maybe a little lacking in elegance. | 92
Andrew Jefford | Lush, deep, buttercup gold, lanolin-soapy at first, though this clears, giving way to a honeyed stage and finally something fresher, with menthol and a touch of linden leaf, too. Pure, waxy, and fresh, with both confit quince fruits and those mentholly, linden notes evident on the nose. Less unctuous and exuberant than some, but remember that this is a Barsac, though it goes to market as Sauternes (as it has every right to do). Poise, elegance, and finesse rather than sheer power here. A decidedly fresh enchantment. | 91
