BUY THE WINE

Jesús Barquín: Nose of very ripe blackberries, a note of menthol, mildly toasty. Good mouthfeel, intense, balanced, with a long finish marked by notes of overripeness. 15.5

Nicolas Belfrage: Medium deep, almost opaque. Herbs and cherries on nose, room for development. Nicely balanced with the right amount of sweet and sour, tannic firmness and bitterness. Good length, ability to age well; well-judged acidity. Not loud but together. 17

Andrew Jefford: Mid-depth of black-red. Very fine bittersweet kirschy scents: the memory of the madman with the hammer in the cherry orchard. But time has healed all: smooth, subtle, and refined; tapered and elegant. On the palate, this is a wine of moderate concentration but stylistically precise and correct, and with good levels of extract and tannic depth. It doesn’t aim for the highest heights, but open this bottle and you will have a satisfying Amarone of culturally impeccable style. 15.5
