BUY THE WINE

Jesús Barquín: Very raisiny and concentrated; fig bread on the nose, with a creamy note and a vegetal whiff. The palate is heavyish and a tad alcoholic—due not so much to objective high alcohol as to the shortage of other elements. Long finish, with prunes and nuts. 14

Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, opaque, youthful. Somewhat aggressive nose of coffee beans and blackberry jam. A little lax on palate, lacking tautness. Acid/sugar balance is okay, but tannins are firm, finish a bit rough-hewn; interesting to reconsider in a couple of years. 14

Andrew Jefford: Deep, saturated red-black in color. The red fruits are very evident here: sweet cherries, bobbing in a warm wind. Some vanilla and sweet cream beneath. Dense, concentrated, and vivacious on the palate, if rather straightforward in style. Lots of charm and exuberance in the front-loaded palate, with a relatively swift, open middle-palate and finish. A touch woody in style as well, though; some might find the finish astringent. 15
