Jesús Barquín: Chestnut. The nose is spirity, very serious, with a hint of incense and burned sugar. Confirmed by the palate, dry and well structured; powerful and old, with notes of caramel and fine carpentry all the way to the long finish. 17
Andrew Jefford: Deep, burnished walnut, with red-russet glints. Spicy, deep, a touch fungal; not pristine, but not unattractive. Lots of flavor; exuberant; but a rather rough-and-ready kind of Amontillado, without the engraver’s finesse of the best. Nutty finish. 12
Richard Mayson: Mid-deep amber, with a green rim; full, rich, dried figs, very slightly pruney on the nose; similarly full and rich on the palate, with lovely savory intensity building in the mouth leading to a long, powerful, Amontillado tang on the finish. A lovely wine that gives a feeling of power and depth. 17.5
