Jesús Barquín: Slightly less deep cherry than average in the tasting. The nose is fruit-driven, exuberant, almost tropical (again Touriga Nacional?), with toasty notes in the background. Tannic palate, mildly sweetish, with drying finish and more exotic fruit confirming the cloying impression promised by the nose. 14.5
Alex Hunt: Lots of scrubby, perfumed black fruit, and only a moderate amount of oaky gloss. Great inky depth. The palate is youthful, of course, but not impenetrable. There is some telltale Douro violet aroma that leavens the richness of fruit. Sensitively made and surprisingly refreshing. 16.5
Andrew Jefford: Saturated red-black in color. Rich, enticing scents of fresh woodland plums, sloes and damsons, with a faint Cistus undertow. Mouth-filling and textured, deep, a perfect melange of damsony fruit and crushed schist stone—and admirably perfumed in the mouth, too. (That damson fruit almost seems to conceal blossom at its heart.) Later, the mineral side of the aromatic profile grows more prominent. Succulent, shapely, and long, this is a brilliantly vinified wine, yet rich with the sense of place, too. True fine-wine harmony and finesse. Magnificent. 19
