Jesús Barquín: Toasty nose, coffee, black pepper; intense in the style of Cabernet and Merlot more than Grenache or Carignan. The palate confirms the impression of the nose: seriously structured, balanced, tannins still tough. Slightly international in style. 14.5
Alex Hunt: A big, exuberant nose of smoky-mineral, toasty oak, and inky blackberry fruit, followed by an encouragingly pretty palate. It lacks some acidity and energy but is nicely balanced and fully accessible. Good current drinking. 15.5
Andrew Jefford: Dense, deep black-red. Warm, full, ripe: another of those red-wine noses that is almost honeyed. Almost waxy here, too. Not unattractive, but a little low on the poise front. On the palate, this is a more serious wine than the aromas suggested, with plenty of depth and dimension to it; ample tannins, too, and the mineral cast that speckles Priorat’s fruit flavors is more than evident. The overall effect is serious, terroir-driven, and complex—but the ripeness of the fruit has almost billowed out of control, and this lets the wine down a little. It’s not a desiccated, raisiny ripeness, but a ripeness that has let all the contours slide, leading to a sense of shapelessness and lack of focus in the mouth. 14
