Jesús Barquín: Textbook Priorat nose with chamomile tea, lemon zest, garrigue, a hint of VA, and those mineral echoes called llicorella. Intense and complex, but a tad cloying. The palate is equally cloying, with sweetness and alcohol that eventually render the wine unbalanced. Overpowering. 14
Alex Hunt: This has a strong minty-medicinal layer over the typical ripe black fruit. The palate has appreciable grip and fresh acidity; this is not for immediate consumption. As long as the 15% alcohol stays more or less in check, this should be a lot of medium-term fun. 15.5
Andrew Jefford: Saturated deep black-red. Expansive, resinous, apothecary scents and a hint of the old spice warehouse, too. Not fresh or focused, but fun. On the palate, this is another soft and rather soupy wine, but immensely generous, with both its structuring and its balancing force coming from the tannins. I like it, and I’d find it enjoyable and drinkable, but it’s hard to give it a high score: There just isn’t the precision and finesse that truly fine wines need. The mineral spectrum to the flavor provides some complexity. 14.5
