Jesús Barquín: Slightly evolved nose, with floral notes and leather. The palate is dominated by animal notes that, in theory, do not belong in a wine this young. A tad hot, lacks vibrancy. 12
Alex Hunt: Very clever aroma set here: all sweet torrefaction notes of cocoa, coffee, and caramel, but lifted by a smoky-sulfide brightness. That same smoky note makes a valiant attempt to focus the palate, but it’s overwhelmed; the structure is rather soupy, and the overall impression is one of slight overripeness and lack of vigor. 14.5
Andrew Jefford: Dark red-purple. Warm, resonant, glowing red fruits, shaped by oak; but beyond that, not a lot of focus or allusion. Deep, vivid, and long, with satisfactory textures, but slightly hollow in the mid-palate: There isn’t great width to the fruit, and it seems to curve away slightly before returning at the end. Some sense of spring flowers hangs over the wine, emphasizing that lightness. But it’s been well crafted, and it wouldn’t disappoint. 14
