BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin | Sweet, spicy, and balsamic. Classic, traditional, American oak notes. High acid will ensure longevity. Touch of chalk on the finish. | 91

Simon Field | A brick-red rim, a firm core; very classic aromatic of fennel, lemon juice, spruce, and blueberries; chalk and fig, gastronomically enticing. There is a hint of volatility, but this is positive and intriguing; a whiff of bonfires and lanolin, too. The palate has taken on secondary characteristics; soft, yet with an herbal backdrop and something from the charcuterie counter in deference to a savory evolution, the progress of which it will be fascinating to pursue... | 94

Andrew Jefford | Deep, translucent black-red. Earthy, soft, and full aromatically: well rounded, harmonious, and ripe. Some of the attractive mushroom notes of age are beginning to steal into the wine: classical aged Rioja. Great charm and appeal. The oak is lavish, but for the classical style it has to be, and it works very well here. Deep, pure, oak-structured but intense and vigorous Rioja in the grand tradition, and a wonderful core of ripeness here. Very good indeed. | 94
