Tim Atkin | Showing a little of the heat of the vintage. Concentrated, spicy, savory, with well-integrated oak, sweet spices, and a firm finish. Alcohol a little marked. | 91
Simon Field | Evolved plum color; viscosity easily evidenced; attractive nose of nutmeg, vanilla pod, wild strawberry, and quince; the palate is broad and allusive; hints of licorice, lemongrass, and strawberry parfait traverse the imagination as it seeks a grounded definition. There is nothing grounded here; it has ethereal charm, impressive from such a warm vintage, and no lack of demonstrative personality. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red, just off opaque now. Plush, brocaded blackberry and raspberry fruit in ample, articulate, almost flamboyant style: An aromatic treat. It’s still plush and full on the palate, with ample depth and warmth, and no sign of any decline. Super tannins, and the acidity is admirably fruit-bonded; the wine is still succulent and gathered. Excellent work here, and a fine, gastronomic Rioja with lots left to give. Glorious textures and depth for its age. | 95
