Tim Atkin | Complex, mature, balsamic, if a little fruit- deprived. Tannic and a little dry. Acid-driven, lacks mid-palate weight. | 90
Simon Field | Deep color, luminous, generous; then a nose of forest floor, wild strawberry, graphite, and crushed rock. The fruit extraction has been forceful, and there is a hint of austerity; figs, bitter chocolate, blueberries, deft tannins, all underwritten by the potential to evolve further. Today, poised and primed. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red and still opaque, though less saturated in color than the deepest of its peers. Fine lifted fruits dominate the aromas: Blackcurrant, damson, and sloe. Poised and fresh, and absolutely no occlusion from oak: a super aroma, with the emphasis above all on vineyards and fruit, drawing you into the wine. This is another completely outstanding 2015 wine, with huge depth, power, and resource, still at the very earliest stages of its life. Indeed, it’s almost primeval. Ripe, rich, deep, resonant, and roaring with fruit, and the prodigious tannins easily counterbalance any sweetness of oak. When you taste a wine like this, you realize the potential of the region—something of which the legion of “just good enough” wines never really give you even a glimpse. | 96
