Tim Atkin | Inky and intense, with some meaty reduction and layers of blackberry and licorice. Very primary, with possible evidence of carbonic maceration. Little or no oak. Glossy tannins. Modern, vibrant, and well made, but it needs more time. | 95
Simon Field | Cardinal purple color; bright and forward; the aromatic is precocious, primary notes jostling within the red-berried undergrowth. Hints of reduction. The palate has stone-fruit gravitas, a clasp of youthful tannins, a lot of promise. Time is on the wine’s side, and time will calm its structural grip. | 88
Andrew Jefford | Dark, dense, and purposeful black-red, opaque at the heart with a barely translucent purple rim. Fresh, vibrant, sour-sweet damson and sloe fruits on the nose; lively and enticing. Zesty, sour-fresh fruits that shock, surprise, and delight. It’s not hugely concentrated, but there is a little framing tannin for gravity and table duty. Excellent, young and, one assumes, inexpensive Rioja. | 89
