Tim Atkin | Oaky, ripe, and a little chewy. Drying oak, firm, and serious withatannic, extracted finish. Needs more flesh and sweetness in the mid-palate. | 89
Simon Field | Dark and closed; the austerity and reticence a function of youth rather than inherent timidity. There is more candor on the palate, a broader landscape, with figs, loganberry, and roses adorning the backdrop. Tannins hold sway at the moment, but the shape is sufficiently robust to guarantee a deft evolution. Just give it time! | 89
Andrew Jefford | Another dense, opaque black-purple wine from the 2017 cohort. Warm, sweet, and open aromatically, with a dried-fruit, plum-pudding richness. Another 2017 wine with deep, searching fruits occupying center-forward position. Powerful damson, even sloe flavors, with some blackcurrant, too—but there is no sense at all of overripeness. Very deep, impressive, and driving, and no need to hurry here: Time will bring rewards. A super wine with ample cladding for the years ahead. | 93
