Simon Field | Dense inky-crimson, bright, and ludic; a perfume dominated by crème de cassis, lavender, and gunpowder, maybe crushed rock, too; gum cistus and angelica root—something pleasingly elemental for sure. The palate is more monolithic than expected, a function of youth maybe. The tannic grip is impressive but does not dry and does not challenge a fundamental hegemony where fruit reigns supreme. A cerebral and quietly impressive example, long on the palate and with much to give. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark, dense black-red, though no longer opaque. Complex, sweet, plant-like, and rich, with lots of aromatic notes from the warm summer garrigue spectrum in harmonious, melded guise. Soothing, inviting, and appetizing: an excellent aromatic profile. Vivid and athletic on the palate, though quite high-toned; not a huge amount of bass fruit to give wealth and width on the tongue. Some of the aromatic charm carries on into the palate, though, and it’s an enjoyable, engaging wine to drink. | 88
Anthony Rose | A deep, youthful ruby. This is engagingly spicy in its aromatic profile—fruity, too—and the concentrated quality of fruit that follows through is ripe, sweet, and supple. Attractively sinewy in texture, with resolving tannins and an underlying freshness that brings a balancing savoriness to what amounts to a highly enjoyable wine. | 91
