Simon Field | Deep ruby, stained black cherry, then a nose of bitter chocolate, forest floor, and spice. Aniseed, fennel, and mace all support the fruit, lending local color to the assemblage. The palate has good concentration, a resoundingly impressive dark fruit core, with rock-infused tannins and tight supporting acidity. The finish is a touch austere but, with time, will cede to a latent harmony, the sheer quality of the fruit sure to carry it through. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Clear, deep black-red. Red curranty fruits and a little bit of grassiness; citrus blossom also. Affable and characterful. Deep, forthright, searching. On the palate, some sweet cherry sets out, but it is swiftly engulfed by the bandits of the hills, and the wine ends up with a lunge of acidity and the bitterness of plant roots and stones. Attractive, though, once you have acquired the taste, and plenty of depth and concentration. | 90
Anthony Rose | A primary ruby hue is followed by pleasing if lightly quiet aromatics, but fresh. There’s some substance to the blackberry fruit that’s ripe to the point of appealing mid-palate sweetness and a certain adolescent muscularity of tannin complemented by nice freshness, which, overall, brings balance to a wine that, still in the first flush of youth, is going places—to many satisfied dinner tables. | 90
