Simon Field | Bright aubergine color, a softer Grenache hue thereafter; joyful. The provenance is writ large throughout the contract between the wine and the taster: Mediterranean scrub, licorice, blackberry, and quince. A very complete, approachable piece of work, the softer Grenache-based declamation in no way undermining gravitas and a capacity to age. | 92
Andrew Jefford | Deep, dark black-red with some lingering purple, though not opaque. Warmly fruited scents, mingled with root spices and a summer’s sweet, herbal dryness. Just a touch of reduction. Soft, rounded, deep, and a friendlier, more affable and less demanding wine than many of its peers, though there is still ample acidity, bitterness, and tannin. The fruits are sweet, round, and complex, and they carry those regional austerities more easily than many of the wine’s peers. | 89
Anthony Rose | Good, youthful-looking ruby, this is still primary in aroma, with a light spiciness and red fruit feel. The flavors follow in a similar vein, though the fruit is dominated at this early stage by quite a hefty structure not just of tannin but of an alcohol level that pokes through with a little too much presence. Perhaps it will all balance out given a bit more time. Jury out. | 87
