Simon Field | Distinct, almost brick-red color; quite a marked fade at the rim. The nose is appealing, however: wild strawberry, juniper, shale, and even a hint of smoke. There is a lot of appeal on the palate; a broad and heady Grenache embrace, with plenty of good will and a gregarious temperament. There is sufficient detail thereafter to ensure ongoing interest and the promise of evolution, maybe best for the medium term. An appealing broad-brushed style, reassuring in its composure and felicity, engaging without threatening overweening simplicity. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark, translucent red-black. Sweet, warm, vanillic, and tobaccoey: fragrant and attractive, with some plant complexities and a hint of basil. Inviting aromas if seemingly well advanced along the evolutionary trajectory. Graceful, fresh, and poised, but a little bit grassy and herbaceous; that basil is back. High-altitude again? If so, these higher sites need different plantings or a switch to whites. | 86
Anthony Rose | An evolving mid-ruby, with a suggestion of browning. This has some positive aromatic features—viz freshness, light spice, a note of red fruit—but the fruit doesn’t linger overlong on the palate before it’s drowned out by the elements that, instead of supporting, rather tend to dominate. | 86
