Simon Field | Aubergine color, dark olives maybe. A nose of mothballs, bilberry, and late-season roses; a hint of esteva, even. The weight of alcohol is somewhat overbearing maybe, and one longs for a taut, stony freshness to offset the sheer density evidenced on the mid-palate. A little ponderous. | 88
Andrew Jefford | Deep, dark black-red, just off opaque; no purple. Sweetly oaky with some svelte blackcurrant and black-plum fruits. Light, fresh, and elegant wine, though I’d love to see the same raw materials after a different sort of élevage. The oak is a little overdominant here, and it dries out fruit that is already on the dry side. Good wine, nonetheless, and excellent raw materials, too. | 89
Anthony Rose | Medium-ruby in color and starting to show some premature evolution. This gives some mulberry in the aromas, albeit a tad on the shy side; the fruit is pleasantly sweet and juicy, with some density to it. It’s on the warm side and lacks a bit in the vibrancy stakes, not helped by a rustic chewiness of texture that results in a drying finish on the tongue. | 86
