Simon Field | Impressive color, careless of the years, the rim still youthful pink, the nose also dignified and softly attractive: wild strawberries, hints of peony, nectarine, and wild thyme. The palate has softened with time but holds definition and precision, structurally speaking, and betrays the vestigial promise of a nicely constructed piece of work. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Deep, dark black-red, though not quite opaque now. Rounded and warm on the nose, though barely more focus and precision than that. Soft, with mellow and harmonious fruits; very satisfying tannins, modest acidity and impressive length and drinkability. This is a large-scale, generous, beautifully aged wine that has real classicism. A fine mealtime choice and a wine of almost European style in its accomplished maturity profile and satisfying textural wealth. It just lacks a little detail for a mid-90s score, but it’s a wine that I’d love to sit down to dinner with. | 92
Anthony Rose | Youthful in color, this is maturing nicely both in aroma and flavor. Florally scented, it’s quite rich in cherry fruit, which is powerfully constructed and still, even at this stage of evolution. Quite dense and tannin-packed—so much so that, while it would be enjoyable with the right food, I don’t see it softening down completely any time soon. | 91
