Simon Field | A delightful, deep mauve color, almost iridescent at the swirl. The nose is a little more orotund, the sooty oak and hint of volatile acidity threatening to overwhelm at the moment. But youth and structural dexterity are on the wine’s side, and in the mouth, anxiety is placated. This is a broad landscape, with a lot of detail in the background—Rubens at Hat Steen. But the overall impression is favorable, and the furl of the texture holds great promise. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Dark, dense, midnight black-red with a purple rim. Sweet and fresh, with an aromatic urgency and a leafy freshness, plus some tobacco-leaf complexities: attractive. Deep, vivid, and fresh on the palate, too, with better depth and drive than most of its vintage peers. It’s full-bodied, with soft but ample texture, no exaggerated heat, and a smooth, fruit-bonded acidity, too. Excellent Malbec. | 91
Anthony Rose | Dense in primary ruby colors, there’s plenty of subtle appeal in the aromatic profile here, oak seemingly playing second fiddle to some inviting fruit. And on taste, the fruit is indeed inviting, a nice hit of dark, sweet cherries, texturally softened by integrated oak and the acidity providing a suitable counterpoint to a tasting of powerful alcohol. Powerful, yes, but nicely balanced overall. | 91
