Simon Field | Strikingly youthful six years down the road, seemingly yet to strike the first chord of adolescence. Impressive Cahors nose of ripe, dark fruit (boysenberry, blueberry, and bilberry the first to come to mind) allied to peat, iodine, sous-bois, and a hint of cinder. Firm and rigorously unrelenting tannins swathe all the potential in a time-delay mechanic, which only time, delayed, can open up. The unraveling is promising and will take on a gastronomic promise that it will be hard to ignore. | 93
Andrew Jefford | Handsome wine for its age: deep, dark black-red with a purple rim. Faintly reductive, surprisingly enough after all these years, on the nose, but some high-quality spiced fruits behind. Attractive overall, for sure. Deep, dense, exuberant, and long on the palate, with no evidence of reduction here: A flamboyant, deep, exuberant, and rather New Worldly style of Cahors, and lots to enjoy. | 91
Anthony Rose | Deep in color and reductive in aroma, this wears its bright freshness on its sleeve. And despite that reduction, it’s less overt in the damson fruitiness that follows, even if there is charring in the drying tannins that doesn’t quite make up for a potentially attractive fruit quality. Perhaps a robust chargrilled piece of game might do the trick. | 88
