Simon Field | Burnished gold, regal of color, then a nose that majors in dried fruit, almond essence, and lanolin. Promising! Generous mid-palate concentration and exotic fruit concentration; just a little de trop at the finish. Less may well have been more in this instance, but the outlook is promising. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Bright lemon-gold. Fresh, clean, precise, zesty: lovely definition here of lemon and ginger, honeyed quince, vanilla, and sweet, freshly-baked biscuit. A super nose. Deep, lively, vivid, fresh, poised, gingery, and long. Much more acidity (as elsewhere in Barsac) than in Sauternes. Bright, tangy, exuberant, biscuity lemon-apricot fruits; a macaroon aftertaste. A dessert fruit tart on its own. The 2017 really seems to have emphasized the differences between Barsac and Sauternes. This is a very fresh, precise, clean, brisk yet generous, tangy, and finally complex wine, and a fine example of the subzone. | 92
