Simon Field | A pale green-gold hue then an attack dominated by ripe Roussanne; peaches and pears and a hint of citron pressé; then a touch of vanillin and almond essence courtesy of the Marsanne. The palate keeps us guessing; fulsome at first, with pineapple and even banana to the fore, but behind that a firmer structure and even a hint of salinity. These varieties seem to be slugging it out with great dignity— Queensberry Rules or the Ardèche equivalent; honors shared and everyone happy. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Pale gold. This is a little oxidative, and with some mixed ripeness. It’s not unattractive, but it doesn’t sing out “St-Péray” and it doesn’t have the beguiling quality of the best of its peers. That same slight oxidative note is there on the palate, but some might sip this and say, “Ah, yes, at last, a traditional style” so I am not dogmatically opposed. This has lots of peach and apricot fruit and a smooth, mouth-filling, softly swimmy style. Much to enjoy. | 86
