Stephen Brook | There’s complexity on the nose, with apple, lime, and mango aromas, even if they are discreet and don’t exactly fly out of the glass. What’s admirable here is the grip on the palate, a feature that seems quite rare in this hot vintage. There is a mineral bite and a welcome absence of flab. There’s structure here and some aging potential. Quite long, with a ripe grapefruit finish. | 92
Simon Field | Mid-lemon color, shy at the rim. Nose appears precocious, young pears and red apples primarily, little by way of support. The palate is more generous in weight, if not in intellectual scope, a similar fruit profile wrapped in an indulgent cocoon of Marsanne. The Roussanne is present, for sure, yet appears strangely mute or inarticulate, or it may just be biding its time. I would be fascinated to see this at regular intervals over the next four to five years. | 88
Andrew Jefford | Relatively pale bright gold. A little bit more muzzled and phenolic than the best of its peers. Pleasant sappy white wine, but not expansive and mellow; a touch dry. I gave it 10 minutes but it didn’t really lift off. Sound, with ample, adequate depths and in fact slightly more aromatic allusions than I could find on the nose; vivid, fresh, driving. But it’s slightly “business as usual” whereas one hopes for a little great- value thrill from St-Péray. | 85
