BUY THE WINE

Andrew Jefford | Dark, deep black-red with dense scarlet to the rim. A slightly strange, chemical aroma—let’s try another bottle. This seems better, though aromatically the wine is still a little stewed, lacking purity and refinement of fruit. Ditto on the palate. I like the tannins, but the quality of the fruits much less; there is something a bit forced and strained here, and none of the hallmark freshness of 2016. | 84

Michael Schuster | Closed to smell, and (new) wood-marked; full-bodied, fresh in acidity, firmly tannic; a very nice sweet fruit core, pure and fine, but a bit “pinched” by its new oak tannins, with its “chewy” texture also dominating its fruit and its finish. Good wine, lovely fruit flavor, but with its purity just a bit marred (for my palate anyway) by the new-wood dryness. 2026–36+. | 89
