Stephen Brook | Gold. The nose is opulent and orangey, with a distinct exoticism, too, with some passionfruit aromas. It’s suave and hedonistic, a big bold style with heft and vigor. There’s ample acidity and bite to cut the rich fruit. It’s not that elegant, but has concentration and swagger. The oak gives structure and backbone and this should go the distance. Long. | 93
Andrew Jefford | A pale butter yellow just now, the La Tour Blanche 2016 smells super-classical, packed with lemon-tart and crème anglaise richness, and with the oak and the lanolin of botrytis and glycerol adding an extra aromatic charm of their own. Pure, mouthwatering, and lovely scents. On the palate, it is soft, mellow, unctuous, and open, with surprisingly elevated levels of acidity and (pace the nose) discreet oak. All the ample richness here provides lots of lusciously lemony pleasure. | 91
