Michael Schuster | Quite marked by its new oak to smell—not unpleasant though—on a red and black fruit; fairly full on the palate, fresh in acidity, finely tannic; an easy, sweetly red-fruit ripe, flowing wine, framed by a light, currently slightly wood- dry tannin; moderate in complexity, gently succulent and of good medium length. Attractive mid-rank St-Emilion which will be accessible relatively early. There was a (celebrated) new chai for the 2018 vintage, and the 2018, when I tasted it en primeur, was also fairly marked by its new oak. This one is, too... if not as much. It’s usually very fair value, but I feel there is a lovely wine here, being somewhat hidden by its wood cloak. Is it the quantity, or the quality of the wood? Or me? 2024–35+.
