Simon Field | Deep gold, then a suitably serious nose, dried herbs, chamomile, and a tropical lagoon; green tea and white chocolate. Broad and measured on the palate, a metronome of appreciative sensibility; ginger, quince, and Amontillado calm; almonds and a smattering of hazelnuts. Prominent acidity only grounds the ensemble, the freshness of the finish resplendent in its wake. | 88
Andrew Jefford | Pale to mid-gold. Very classical and actually very forthcoming, too: a broadcast of autumn stubble fields and chamomile, yeast extract and autumn orchards thickly strewn with windfalls. Serene, expressive, and grand. That’s the way of it on the palate, too; this is actually a rather more extrovert Château-Chalon than the best of its peers, but it is outstanding in every respect save that it is not particularly tight-knit or close- textured. The repertoire is spot on, though (as suggested by the aromas); the acidity is lavish, open, rounded, and reverberative; it sings its way through an expressive middle palate to a very long finish. Wonderful wine. | 94
Roy Richards | Deep gold. Hazelnut, a touch of volatility, whisky and marzipan. Powerful, with broad flavors lifted by a tickle of acidity. | 87
