Simon Field | Green-gold, burnished yet bright; the aromas are lively and expressive, the youthful rancio yet to cede its citrus grip, the savory midpalate, curried, with adorning apricots and quinine and an impressive and uncompromising weight. Comté (aged at least 36 months) required. The seam of acidity is resourceful and highly influential on the architecture; fin de siècle maybe, but not a bad way to go. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Pale to mid-gold. This is a slightly older wine, and a little stinky-rubbery when first poured. Varnishy, too. Let’s give it some more time... These aromas dissipate but don’t fully clear, alas. Very concentrated and forceful on the palate, with quite a rich and chewy style, ample tangy acidity, and a long, acid-riven (and driven) finish. Aromatically, though, it is not as happy as some of its peers, and great Vin Jaune does need aromatic finesse, both on the nose itself and in the mouth. | 84
Roy Richards | Deep gold. A very different, unusual nose, like gingerbread. High acid, but good complexity and length. Not a bête à concours, but pas mal. | 89
