Simon Field | Composed vermillion, raven black at its core, confident and self-assured, the nose marrying red and black fruit, smoke, and murmurs from the forest. The palate exudes Grenache plush, its alcohol relatively high and its acidity low, but the crushed-stone/herbal cushion lends focus and an impressive identity, reassuring the timorous taster with entirely justified expectation. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Deep, almost purple black-red, though once again not quite opaque. Some reduction on the nose here; rich red fruits and warm pine beneath. Sound and satisfying, though not sublime. Warm and ample in construction, with glowing red fruits backed and balanced by ample tannins. Much more discreet acidity here than in the Gigondas cohort, however. That faint note of reduction lingers on the palate, too, slightly drying and vitiating the pleasure. It may clear with decanting, and there is also a huge amount to enjoy in this generously constituted Châteauneuf. | 88
David Williams | A wine of huge scale where, it seems, Grenache is allowed to run its full course: heady, rich, and deep, with what I can only call a kind of vertical character. Don’t look down—this is a wine of dramatic proportions that is shaped but not defined by the alcohol and where the tannins are firm and present but not forced. Drinkable and fluent, albeit in a way that demands similarly rich food. | 91
