Simon Field | Dense color, squid ink with no quarter given. The nose is equally unforthcoming, dark fruit and chocolate to the fore, the palate redeemed by a firm shard of acidity that runs the gamut all the way with intense tannins in the vanguard, and ripe, quite youthful fruit parrying with regal insouciance throughout the ensemble. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Deep black-red though not quite opaque. And here’s another impressive aromatic profile from Terra Alta: full, balanced, complex in fruit terms, chunky and full, with sweet plum and strawberry balanced out by creamed barley and rummaged earth. Fresher and more intricate, indeed, than [the Edetària Edetària Seleccio Vinyes Velles]. On the palate, this is full, sweet, rich, and exuberant, whereas [the Edetària Edetària Seleccio Vinyes Velles] had slightly finer tannins and a little more grip. The fruit qualities here, though, are voluptuous and flamboyant. An exciting new (to me) Garnacha hot spot. | 90
David Williams | Immense power and weight, the concentration dialed up to the maximum, with no little high-toast oak joining in to add extra heft. There is a glimmer of something else here, beyond the palpable winemaking—a dusty earthiness is how I might describe it—but you have to peer very hard to find it. | 85
