Simon Field | Ripe, smoky, generous, and richly scented; crème de cassis, violets, and dark chocolate, saddle leather and bay leaf are all there on the nose. Thereafter the spritz of youth, firm balancing acidity, and poised herbal-scented tannins. A little chalky at the moment, but appropriately deferential to the prospect of an impressive and lengthy evolution. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Saturatedly deep black-red with some purple glints; the deepest hued of the “Rhône cru” flight. Meaty-sweet and animal. Pollen, ginger, and a touch of funk make for an intriguing but generally attractive nose. Rich, soft-textured, and ample on the palate, though the funk levels are perhaps a little high for comfort here. Drink sooner rather than later in this instance. | 83
David Williams | A tolerance for the barnyardy aromas and drying tannins of Brett is required here, but for me those notes don’t overplay their hand. The black olive and high-toned cherry and dark-raspberry fruit are intensely presented in a pleasingly rustic, knockabout, savory style. | 86
