BUY THE WINE

Andrew Jefford: Deep-hued, with some black still qualifying the scarlet, though translucent and clear. Sweet, soft, and warm, though rather low-focus. A touch confit without much freshness apparent, though not unattractive. Deep, full, concentrated, and still vividly fruity on the palate, with plenty of oak-supported grip. Chunky and ambitious wine, which may have slipped into an aromatically quiet phase, though the wealth of fruit and its supporting structure give it plenty of drinking aptitude. Very satisfying. | 89

Jasper Morris: fine deep color, with deep plummy fruit on the nose. This is aiming at being a food wine rather than a lighter, fresher, more perfumed example of Sancerre Pinot. It certainly fills the mouth in a luscious dark-raspberry style, with some strawberry top-notes, a few gentle tannins at the finish, and very good length. The producer has been quite ambitious but has made it work. There is still significant fruit energy at the back of the palate, so I think the best may still be to come. | 90

Catherine Petrie: Medium-ruby. An appealing nose of ripe, restrained red fruit that has settled into itself. The palate has a juicy freshness in the character of its red-currant and strawberry fruit and the vibrant nature of its acidity. Overall, a very enjoyable mouthful, with plenty of fruit concentration and a succulent length. The wood tannins feel slightly drying. I suspect these will not dissipate, and as the wine is otherwise drinking well, why wait?! | 89
