Andrew Jefford | Dark black-red, with a little more color density than Clos du Marquis. Warm, classic, claretty scents of blackcurrant and stone; the oak obtrudes less here than it does on Clos du Marquis, and the aromas suggest the fruit will be more concentrated and denser. That’s pretty much what the palate reveals: This is deep, almost penetrating St-Julien with plenty of classic blackcurrant drive; there’s fresh redcurrant, bilberry, and blueberry to add to the layered complexity of the fruits. The tannins are not prolific (they seem to be softening in this vintage relatively swiftly); and ripe, singing acidity does most of the structuring work here. Impressive. | 90
Michael Schuster | Ripe fruit, mineral-edged to smell; medium-full, fresh to lively, finely tannic, nicely balanced mid-weight claret; brisk, gently gravelly, red-fruit flavored Bordeaux, not grand but moderately complex and, given time, a rewarding glass of claret. Give it at least 5 years. 2024–32. | 89
