Simon Field: A bold, emphatic, raven hue, just the slightest hint of fade. Nose and palate less assertive than some, but there is no lack of intrigue in the plot, rapier acidity behind cashmere plush; firm, persuasive tannins and a reminder of the generosity of the vintage in the ripeness of the fruit. A little drying on the finish, but this rigor is welcome. | 89
Andrew Jefford: Glossy, saturated black-red. Lots of fresh, perfumed lift here; sweetly beguiling blackcurrant and dusty plum. In the mouth, this is weighty, full, spicy, with soft but ample tannins; ample succulence and purity. A hugely enjoyable Port from this less widely declared year—and with more legs than many of its vintage peers. | 89
Richard Mayson: Deep, opaque, youthful color; ripe berry fruit on the nose withatouch of tar; another very soft, round ’09 but with more structure, soft, ripe tannins rising on the palate and lingering on to the finish, which has depth and breadth. Drink relatively early, from 2027. | 88
