Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve | fine, elegant, slightly lighter than the Léovilles, but there is a lot of refinement and race in the supporting tannins. | 94
Michael Schuster | Dense and mineral and ripe blackcurrant to smell; rich, ample, warm, firmly tannic but with a fresh defining acidity; sweetly red- and black- fruit ripe, mouthcoating, powerful, generous wine; the tannins marked, but with an overall fleshy, velvety impression, all held in check by the acidity; a touch warm, and with a long, sweet- cored finish. The most powerful Lagrange ever? It will need plenty of time, but be rewarding in its very particular 2018 style. I wouldn’t want it every year, and I imagine you will need to partner it with care at table. Remarkable nonetheless. 2032–50. | 93–94
