BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve | Generous, slightly soft in the middle of the mouth for the moment, but with a beautiful grain of tannin. | 95

Michael Schuster | Very nice, gently rich-fruited nose of blackberry/strawberry; rich middleweight, fresh in acidity, fine in a moderate tannin; a ripe, fresh, fleshy, ample wine, with a lovely concentration of matter; juicy, sweet, and fresh, with Margaux restraint, 2nd-growth class, and really nice, fragrant persistence. There is still a touch of distracting new-wood dryness (much less than in the past), but you can now regularly see at its heart why this was rated a 2nd growth in 1855. Very fine, but could be even more polished in texture. 2026–50. | 91–93
