Simon Field | Mid-straw color and a rather unusual, almost savory, nose, fermentation still in its mind; aromas from the haywain and a lick of smoky bacon; an Alsatian viscosity and a nearly redemptive mid-palate; yet this is a child of a difficult harvest, a little reticent, its late-season apple profile lacking for energy, exuberance, and the joie de vivre that should be the sine qua non of the category. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Clear lemon-yellow. Slightly disconcerting aromas of lilac bulbs and jonquil. The floral component is there, though there is less cream and summer fruit than in some peers. On the palate, it is a markedly less rich wine than many, with fresh acidity and an almost curranty zest to it. Many will love this for precisely that freshness and zestiness (relative to the appellation benchmark)—a Condrieu you could drink with fish, for example. | 86
John Livingstone-Learmonth | Good, regular yellow robe. Nicely broad aroma, mixes up citrus fruits with pear, aniseed, is accomplished and elegant, has a note of tobacco. The palate runs well, delivers good fresh length (something of a rarity this year), and has lift to render it enjoyable and second-glass material. There is spicing in its white fruits, and the aftertaste clean tones are a bonus. The oaking has been well conducted here. 2021. | 92
