Bruno Besa | Deep garnet to pink. Intense, mature, mineral, complex, red and black fruits nose, with leather, smoke, blood oranges, and dried roses. Medium to full body, with a layered black fruit palate, big, refined tannins, and long, mature yet fragrant finish. A large-scale Nebbiolo for long-term aging. | 94
Stephen Brook | Ripe cherries and damsons on the nose, which is fruity and generous. Broad and fleshy, this is certainly succulent but has enough tannic backbone to prevent the fruit from being cloying. It’s a weighty style showing depth of fruit rather than finesse, but that weight and concentration are impressive and imposing. I’d prefer to see more freshness and flair, but on its own terms this is a very good wine. Good length. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Deep, dark ruby red with some black, though translucent. Some oak is evident here, but it’s a very attractive aromatic profile for all that, and the oak doesn’t swamp the curranty fruit. Licorice spice adds a little class. This is an ambitious, broad, and expansive wine on the palate, though for me the purity and precision of the fruit as harvested has got slightly lost in the élevage. Nonetheless, there is a lot to enjoy here, and the quality of what came from the vineyard is clear. A year or two in bottle may bring better balance. 2018–24. | 89
